Top Five of the Hot Mess Known as 2020

We made it, ladies and gentlemen. 2020 is over and finished. While I didn't read as much as previous years, I did read a lot. Most of them were average (with ratings of 3 stars), but there were a few that I really enjoyed/stood out.

**Note: They are in no particular order of enjoyment, just in the order I read them**

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
I know this was a somewhat decisive story, but at the same time I really enjoyed getting to see the story of Snow and how he got to where he is in the Hunger Games and the drive that got him there in the first place.

The Void by Morgan Elizabeth Huneke
Full disclosure: I was one of the beta-readers for this book. Once it released, I bought a copy for myself to see the final changes.

I can't say much because I will start spoiling things left and right, but go read it. While I don't enjoy one of the tropes in this, it was enjoyable YA that reflected some of the original (ie 2013-2015) YA style.

Batman: A Death in the Family by Jim Starlin
I would like to thank Jason Todd for his sacrifice so I could get a great panel of Bruce Wayne shirtless and the adorable person that is Tim Drake.

Also, anyone who says that Bruce doesn't care about the people around him needs to read this. Immediately.

Where Trains Collide by Amber Stokes
Unfortunately for us, Ms. Stokes has gone DFE (hopefully out of choice and not because someone forced her hand) so I have no idea whether or not she will continue to write romance/finish The Heart's Spring series. I'm going to miss her because she has a great ability to write romance - both historical and contemporary. This book was no exception.

The Rise of the Altereds by Marisa Noelle
I'm going to do a separate blog post for this, so be on the lookout for that. Until then, know that this is a sequel, while different in tone and pacing, that is just as enjoyable as the first book.
